Student Residence Permit

Before you can submit your application, all student applicants should book an interview with the Embassy over the internet ( www.swedenvisa.org ). The application fee (22,200 naira incl. bank charges) is not refundable.
  • Applicant must apply in person at the Embassy.
  • All applications are submitted to the Swedish Migration Board for decision.
  • The Embassy cannot affect the processing time which is THREE MONTHS after receiving the application.
  • All documents must be supplied in two copies.
Required documents for Student Residence Permit

  • 2 recently taken photographs in colour
  • Valid passport for the whole planned stay in Sweden
  • 2 copies of the laminated ID-page of the passport
  • 2 copies of admission letter from place of study in Sweden
  • A bank statement belonging to you showing that you have your own funds to support yourself throughout the entire period of your planned study
  • 2 copies of health insurance (applicable only if you intend to study for a period of 1 year or less)
  • 2 copies of certificates from previous high schools and university studies
  • 2 copies of the West African Senior School Certificate (WASSCE) or National Examination Council Exam (NECO)
  • 2 copies of the National Youth Service Certificate
  • 2 copies of birth certificate
  • 2 copies of marriage certificate, if married
  • Print out of confirmation called "Appointment details"
All the above required documents are compulsory and your application will NOT be processed unless all documents are provided.

Please bring to the attention of all applicants:

According to the Passport (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act Chapter 343
Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 1990

“It shall be an offence for any person- to have, hold or be in unauthorised possession of more than one valid standard Nigerian passport.”

Therefore when submitting a new passport, all applicants are requested to cancel the previous passport.
All valid visas in that passport will remain valid.
If applicants decide not to submit their previous passports, travel history will not be taken into consideration.

IMPORTANT! You must enclose a bank statement showing that you have bank assets available in an account belonging to you. The bank that you will be using should be officially recognized by the Central Bank of Nigeria. Fixed deposit accounts are not acceptable. Scholarships can only be given by the school that has approved your admission. We do not accept that a sponsor (such as a relative or a company) support you during your stay in Sweden. The support requirement at present is at least SEK 7,300 per month. If you intend to study for one year or more you must show that you can support yourself for 10 months per year.

1 U.S. Dollars = 7.79 Swedish Krona

Example: if you intend to study for:
• 6 months you must have at least SEK 36,500 (5 x 7,300)
• 12 months you must have at least SEK 73,000 (10 x SEK 7,300)
• 24 months you must have at least SEK 146,000 (20 x SEK 7,300)
• 36 months you must have at least SEK 219,000 (30 x SEK 7,300)
